Beware of Advertising in Dentistry

In the past few years Kelowna has seen big changes in its dental community. With growth and change comes new challenges, and competition has become an issue that we are starting to deal with on a daily basis. You may have noticed more aggressive radio and print advertising making a variety of claims. Years ago the B.C. Dental Association and College of Dental Surgeons would not have permitted this, but more recently the lines have become blurred. Okanagan Dentistry chooses not to advertise aggressively, as we find that our relationship with you is the best way to attract new patients. Referral from our friends is the best way to grow. If you have any friends or family who are looking for a dentist, we would love to meet them! advertising in dentistry

Changes to Hygiene Staff

After 5 amazing years, our hygienist Lisa will be leaving us on July 10th to move to Invermere, BC. We are sad to lose a part of our family, but we wish her and her family the very best as they enter the next chapter of their lives. With Lisa’s departure, Susan will be coming back to our office in a larger capacity. You might have seen her on Tuesday nights, but now you will be able to see her on Wednesdays and Thursdays as well. We are excited to have her back!

Anita Tozer Memorial Award

Anita Tozer Memorial Award

Congratulations to Dr. Leitch and Dr. Wiens for being an integral part of the “Gospel Mission Charity Dental Clinic Volunteer Dentists” who were awarded the Anita Tozer Memorial Award at the 2013 Kelowna Civic and Community Awards ceremony.

This award is presented by the mayor and city council to “an individual or group in recognition of an extraordinary and positive contribution to the quality of life in Kelowna”. Ian accepted the award on behalf of The Gospel Mission Charity Clinic who provide basic dental services to the financially disadvantaged in Kelowna.

Ian was one of the driving forces in establishing the clinic 10 years ago and has been one of its most dedicated volunteers ever since. Evan has also been volunteering at the clinic after his arrival here in Kelowna. Both Ian and Evan feel it is just the right thing to do to give back to the community that has been so good to them. And besides they say that it is true that by helping others you really do “get back more than you give”.

Congratulations again! We at Okanagan Dentistry are so proud of you both.

Metal Recycling: Thank you to our patients.

Many of you know that (with your consent of course) at Okanagan Dentistry we recycle any old gold and other metals that may be removed from your mouths during your treatment. One old crown isn’t worth much, but over time as we collect a lot of them we can get enough that it is worth recycling. We send all of the scrap metal to an accredited metal recycling company and the funds are then donated to charity.

We always pick a charity that is health related. A few of the charities that we have donated to are:

The Dental Clinic at the Cancer Center at KGH

The Gospel Mission Dental Clinic

Rotoplast Cleft Palate Surgery Missions

Juvenile Diabetes

Vancouver Children’s Hospital

Canuck Place Hospice House in Vancouver

Kelowna Hospital Foundation

So on behalf of all of us at Okanagan Dentistry we send out a great big “THANK YOU” to all of our patients who have so generously donated to this charity metal recycling program at our office. Your old crowns really are making a difference helping others.
