We offer a wide range of restorative dental procedures at our Kelowna dental clinic. That’s because the restorative procedures are the ones you need the most—from when you’re in pain to when something is otherwise negatively affecting your day-to-day life—so we want to make sure we’ve got you covered.

It’s also important to inform yourself so you know what’s wrong, what could go wrong, and that you’ll be in safe hands with our Kelowna dentists. This second part of two articles will do just that, by covering grafting, implants, crowns, bridges, as well as bite and joint problems. Take a look at Part 1 for wisdom teeth removal, fillings and bondings, and root canals.

Hard and Soft Tissue Grafting

Soft tissue refers to gum grafts. If your gums are receding they will eventually expose the root of the tooth, which can be very painful and damaging to the tooth. A soft tissue graft will reverse the recession by using tissue from the roof of your mouth or a donor, and pull it over the exposed area.

Hard tissue refers to areas of your jaw where there is not enough bone, so our Kelowna dentists use various bone producing materials in the area to help your body create new bone.

The procedure is needed to increase the height or width of bone in an area that needs a dental implant, to improve support and retention of a complete or partial denture, and to prevent the bone from shrinking away from an extracted tooth site.

Dental Implant

Missing a tooth? No problem. Titanium dental implants can replace lost teeth permanently, or they can be used to retain a complete or partial denture more securely than conventional methods can. No one will ever know a tooth was even missing!

Crowns & Fixed Bridges

Images of shiny gold smiles fill your head when you think of crowns. Lots of people get turned off at the prospect of a gold crown, but we can offer you a porcelain cap as well if it’s going to be visible - they often look even better than the tooth did before!

You may need a fixed bridge or crown if you have the following conditions:

  1. Large fillings replacing a tooth cusp or very wide fillings
  2. Cracked or broken teeth
  3. Previous root canal therapy without a crown to protect the tooth
  4. Single missing teeth with large fillings on adjacent teeth

Complete, Partial, and Implant Supported Dentures

Dentures are the most comfortable and cost effective way to replace multiple missing teeth. They’re made to closely resemble your natural teeth, and may even enhance your smile!

There are two denture types - partial and complete. Complete dentures are for when you have no teeth left, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. The partial set will also prevent remaining teeth from shifting.

Whenever possible, we will try to make an immediate denture for you. Conventional dentures take 4-6 weeks, which is a long time to go without teeth, but if our Kelowna dental clinic knows that you will need them then a set of dentures can be prepared in advance.

Bite & Joint Problems

Any painful clicking or popping sounds in your jaw? Do your teeth feel thinner? Or do you wake up with sore jaw muscles? This is called occlusion: it’s a problem with the way your teeth fit together.

The solution is a custom mix of other restorative procedures, such as orthodontic treatment, crowns, bridges, dental implants, and bonding. Our Kelowna dental clinic loves seeing our clients, but we also understand that in a large procedure like this, you may want to space out your time between appointments. We’ll customize your plan to minimize your time in the chair, and to minimize the impact on your bank account.

Please contact our dental staff if you have any questions regarding any of these procedures.
