2022 Spring Newsletter

Spring is in the air!

With the tulips and daffodils blooming, we are all excited about the signs of new life and rebirth.  There is a sense of normalcy returning to our community and we are so thrilled. Although we love seeing all our patients’ beautiful faces, the College of Dental Surgeons has mandated that masks still be worn in the dental office, this includes the waiting room.  As soon as this changes, we will be sure to update our policies.

 CDA group Okanagan Dentistry

In the spirit of springtime, we have some exciting announcements to make! Our dental assistant Suzanne and her partner Jesse are  expecting a baby in August, and our hygienist Karissa and her husband Sash are expecting a little one in June!   Our lovely dental assistant Becca has returned to us full time after her maternity leave. She loved the time she spent with her beautiful daughter Eleanora, but she is excited to be back helping care for all our patients.

 We’ve Gone Digital!

We have recently introduced a 3Shape Trios Scanner into our workflow. That means we no longer need to take those messy impressions for any crowns, night guards or retainers! We’re not sure who’s happier, our dental assistants or our patients :)  It has been shown that crowns built on intra-oral scans show a significantly better fit when compared to a conventional impression. We are always striving to provide the best, research based dentistry and building a scanner into our workflow is helping us achieve that goal.

Oral Bleach Rinse

You may have been told by your hygienists to start using a diluted bleach solution as a daily rinse.  This may seem odd, but there is a significant body of evidence that using a very diluted bleach solution helps to reduce the biofilm that causes periodontal disease and gingival inflammation.  Our recommendation is to use a 0.25% solution, 2-3x/week to treat active periodontal disease. One teaspoon of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite in 4 oz of water may also be used in your waterpik. If you would like a commercially bottled solution, CTx4 rinse from CariFree can be purchased through our office as well.  The oral bleach rinse provides an effective, low-cost approach to aid in the management of periodontal disease.

Introducing Jaelynn

We have a new face around the office as well! Our dental assistant Jaelynn.  Fun facts about our great addition, when Jaelynn isn’t working as a rock-star assistant, she is a DJ in the evenings!
