If you are in the office during the month of July, you may have seen or met our summer dental student, Chantelle. Chantelle is a fourth year DMD student at UBC, and has been a patient at Okanagan Dentistry for many years. When Dr. Wiens was at UBC Dentistry, he participated in the summer student program and it was a priceless learning opportunity. We are happy to provide new dentists with an opportunity to hone their skills outside the institutional clinic setting. If you see Chantelle around the office make sure to say hello!
There has been some discussion lately in our office about the use of lasers in dental treatment. At Okanagan Dentistry we have been using a diode laser for soft tissue procedures. It is an essential tool in our dental practice. There are many other lasers that claim a variety of other functions in dentistry, including root canal disinfection, treatment of periodontal disease, and fillings without local anesthetic. Unfortunately, the superiority of these treatments over the traditional approach has not been proven in the majority of cases.
For example, “painless” laser fillings can be performed without local anesthetic, just as we can do in similar situations with a drill. The laser creates an uneven tooth prep which is less desirable and requires the dental drill for refinement. The treatment can just as easily be done with a conventional dental drill, and it is just as fast and pain-free as with a laser.
At Okanagan Dentistry, we strive for excellence in providing the highest possible quality care using the most effective treatment methods. Sometimes new “toys” do not improve outcomes!
In the past six months we have been dealing with an ongoing spam email issue, with many of you receiving emails that appear to be coming from us, when in fact they are from a “fake” email account. If you have received an email from us asking for payment through a link to another website, please do not click on it. We would never ask for payment information via email, and we certainly are not in the business of selling Casio watches!
Our IT team has been working on this issue continuously, and have assured us that your personal information is not compromised in any way. If you receive a suspicious email appearing to come from us, please call or email us and we can confirm if the email is legitimate.
If you have been the victim of a phishing email we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
On May 16th Dr. Natashia Bose-Roberts and her husband welcomed their beautiful baby girl Ella Harper to their family. She is named after her great Grandma and great great Grandma. While on maternity leave, Natashia is missing all her patients! We look forward to receiving visits from Natashia and Ella at the office during the summer and to welcome Natashia back after her maternity leave.
We are sad to say goodbye to our longtime receptionist, Laura. She has been an amazing receptionist at our office and we wish her a relaxing and fun filled “retirement.” However, you may see Laura from time to time, as she will be at reception providing coverage during other receptionists’ time off.
