2015 Spring Newsletter

Baby News!

Many of you have met our hygienist Stacey. We enjoy having her around the office and we know you do too! You may have noticed a small change happening to her lately; she has a little bundle of joy due in June! Our whole office is incredibly excited for her as she and her husband Tim welcome a new addition to their family.  Stacey will be going on maternity leave near the end of May, which means that we will be welcoming a new hygienist to our office in the spring. Kimber-Leigh is excited to join our team and will be staying on full time after Stacey returns on a part-time basis.

On January 25, 2015 Evan and wife Jennifer welcomed a new addition to their family as well. Parker Remington Wiens was born at 7:57 am at 6lbs 5oz. Mom and baby are healthy and Parker’s older brother Holden is having a great time playing with his new best friend. If you are in the office ask Dr. Wiens if he has a baby picture as he has one available at all times!

With all these new arrivals in the office, we are reminded about when children should first see the dentist. The B.C. Dental Association recommends that a child should see the dentist for a “happy visit” by one year of age or within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth, which is usually a lower incisor. Our in-office policy is a little more flexible. We like to see our young patients as soon as is practically possible, which is usually around age 2-3. However, if you have any concerns about your child’s teeth please do not hesitate to bring your child into the office at any age for a complimentary first dental visit and a discussion about early childhood dental health. There are many benefits to an early dental visit, including building familiarity and trust, identifying early developmental issues, and encouraging good habits that will build a lifetime of healthy pearly whites!

Pacific Dental Conference

In addition to the local Thompson Okanagan Dental Society Meeting in October, the annual Pacific Dental Conference in Vancouver is highly anticipated every year. This conference is a great opportunity to learn about the latest and greatest in dental materials and techniques. The whole Okanagan Dentistry team attended the conference from March 5-7 this year. In addition to learning, we always love a chance to spend some time together outside the office! If you would like to hear about what we learned there please ask us at your next visit.

Spring Contest

Come into the office before April 30th to take a guess at how many eggs are in our jar.  The winner will take home an electric toothbrush!

With an early spring, comes an early golf season!

Any golfer can appreciate this story of a GOLFER AT THE DENTIST.

A man and his wife walked into a dentist's office. The man said to the dentist, "Doc, I'm in one heck of a hurry as I have two buddies sitting out in my car waiting for us to go play golf, so forget about the anesthetic,

The dentist thought to himself, "My goodness, this is surely a very brave man asking to have his tooth pulled without using anything to kill the pain." So the dentist asks him, "Which tooth is it sir?"

The man turned to his wife and said, "Open your mouth Honey, and show him . . . “
