Christmas shopping ideas

An Electric Toothbrush – everyone loves gadgets!

You may have noticed that we have been recommending a Sonicare electric toothbrush as opposed to the conventional manual brush.  Simply put, we have noticed a significant improvement in the oral health of our patients who are using an electric brush.  We suggest that you consider making the switch… or put one under the tree for someone special; your mouth will thank you!  We have found the best price is at Costco if you are willing to battle the crowds.

Toothpaste – A great stocking stuffer!

As with most consumer products these days, choosing a toothpaste can be confusing.  There are a few principles that are important: a) the toothpaste must have a high pH to prevent acid wear, b) it should contain a remineralizing agent such as fluoride or hydroxyapatite, and c) the toothpaste should not be abrasive.  Many new toothpastes, especially those advertised as “whitening”, can actually be damaging to your teeth and should be avoided.  The toothpaste that is at the top of our list is Sensodyne Pronamel.  It prevents tooth decay, protects from acid wear, helps with sensitivity, and has a low abrasion formula.

How about slipping a tube into someone’s Christmas stocking and giving them a head start on keeping their teeth healthy?  Pronamel is also available at Costco.
